Dani Pedrosa, Spanish Honda rider, streaked away to win the MotoGP of Catalunya to secure his second victory of the season.
The 22-year-old got off to a flying start as he passed Casey Stoner, pole-position holder and defending world champion, before the first turn.
Pedrosa set a circuit record on the second lap and never looked back, getting out to a lead of more than seven seconds over Stoner and championship leader Valentino Rossi at one stage.
"It has been a difficult weekend but I started very quickly and was delighted with the race," Pedrosa told Spanish television.
"I have won here at 125 and 250cc categories, and now I have won at MotoGP so am particularly pleased."
